Why use Hackley Clubz?
1. It’s beautiful and simple.
Hackley Clubz is inspired by the clean design of Geneva, which was a community management software package acquired (and sunset) by Bumble. The colors and the navigation are built to get out of the way of users as they join clubs, RSVP to club events, and participate in chats.
2. Customizability.
Choosing Hackley Clubz allows students at Hackley to develop custom features that wouldn’t be practical for a larger company to develop. For example:
- Tournament sign-ups
- Bake Sale organizing (including approval process)
- New Club Application Approval Flows
- Coordinating rides to events
- Community Engagement Activity Summary
- Photo Montage Creation (if we do photos)
We think this is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of features that we can implement over time.
3. Teaching students to do real-world programming.
Working on Hackley Clubz will allow students to get experience with many of the core tools that they would use if they were building a software company. In particular:
- Git / github
- Web application development
- iOS app development
- Android app development
- Using databases in applications
- Deployment workflows (change requests, code reviews, pushing changes live)
This could be the foundation of a “Tech Angels” club which does other projects for the good of the Hackley community and/or the world.
